The 2022 FIFA World Cup continues Tuesday on FOX with Portugal taking on Switzerland at Qatar’s Lusail Stadium in the tournament’s last match of the round of 16.

The winner will advance to play Morocco in the quarterfinals, which conclude Saturday, Dec. 10.

Ronaldo on the bench

Major news broke before the match that Portugal star and captain Cristiano Ronaldo would be starting the game on the bench. Gonçalo Ramos started in Ronaldo’s place.

Ronaldo has one goal in the 2022 World Cup, off a penalty kick in Portugal’s opening match against Ghana.

Ramos is making the most of the starting nod, as the Portugal forward punched in the first goal of the game.

Ramos squeaked in a goal on the right side of the net for his second score of the game, giving Portugal a 3-0 lead.

Portugal took a commanding 4-0 lead when defender Raphael Guerreiro powered in a score over Switzerland goalkeeper Yann Sommer.

Switzerland got on the board when defender Manuel Akanji knocked in a goal on the left side of the net.

Goncalo Ramos is him. The forward finessed in his third goal of the game, giving Portugal a 5-1 lead and marking the first hat trick of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

With a four-score lead, Portugal subbed Ronaldo into the game.
