Matthew McConaughey considers possibly ‘inevitable’ presidential run

by Atlanta Business Journal

Actor Matthew McConaughey did not dismiss the possibility of his own presidential run in the future when asked Tuesday.

McConaughey was at the Dreamforce conference in San Francisco when his friend Salesforce co-CEO Marc Benioff asked him about the 2024 election and whether he would consider running himself.

“Yeah, I’ll consider it in the future. I’d be arrogant not to. Absolutely, I would consider it,” the actor said. “If I got into any form of politics, I’d be remiss not to also go in as an artist and a storyteller, help put a narrative together. You’re the CEO of a state and a nation, a lot of compartmentalization and choices to be made. They scare me, but I’m not afraid of them.”

McConaughey was recently in Washington lobbying for reform on gun regulations following the shooting in his hometown of Uvalde, Texas. The actor even made an appearance at a White House press conference.

Despite his political activity, McConaughey said he’d have to feel called to the presidency.

“If that happened to me, I would be pulled into it,” McConaughey said. “If I’m living right, which I’m trying to, we get pulled into things. … It’s inevitable. I didn’t choose it. It chose me.”
