Mumbai: To prevent farmer suicides and promote organic farming, ‘Dr. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde gave assurance of making efforts to give shape to Punjabrao Deshmukh Organic People’s Andolan (Mission) at the National Workshop on Natural Farming and Digital Farming. Chief Minister Shinde participated in the National Workshop held in New Delhi through video conferencing. Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar, Union Chemicals and Fertilizers Minister Mansukh Mandaviya and Chief Ministers of various states were present on the occasion.

On this occasion, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said that certified organic farming is done in about 5.27 lakh hectare area in the state. One million hectare area of ​​the state including tribal area is under natural farming and organic farming is being promoted through Center’s Krishi Vikas Yojana and Indian Natural Farming System Scheme.

CM Shinde said that efforts for science based organic farming are underway to reduce the use of chemical drugs and fertilizers in the state. CM said that the state government appeals to the farmers to increase the use of natural farming methods to conserve land without chemical fertilizers and medicines. This will reduce the cost and benefit small farmers by helping in more profitable farming.

Master Trainer will start the program

The Chief Minister informed that so far 61 thousand farmers of 1,628 farmer groups have been trained in the state. He said that an independent certification body of the state government is being set up to certify natural and organic farming at affordable prices to the farmers. Shinde said that Dr. Panjabrao Deshmukh Organic Farming Campaign has been established in Maharashtra and through this emphasis is being given on organic farming in farmer suicide prone areas of the state. There is a need for training in the context of natural and digital farming, for this masters trainer program will be started in the state.
