St Kitts and Nevis: The Gideon Force Organic Farm, in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries & Marine Resources St Kitts, hosted an informative and thought-provoking panel discussion on Wednesday, November 30th 2022.

The Gideon Force Organic Farm is located in Old Road, St Kitts and is known for selling the best fresh, local and organic produce around the island. 

The theme of the panel discussion was “The Way Forward For Sustainable Agriculture”, which focused on creating a path around St Kitts and Nevis to grow fruits and vegetables in a sustainable way.

The Panel comprised Ras Sankofa Maccabbee, the President of Gideon Force Organic Farm; the Representative from the Department of Agriculture, Jeanelle Kelly; Ronald’ Ras Bankie’ King, the Extension Officer/Farm Manager of the Indian Castle Fruit Tree Orchard, Ministry of Agriculture in the NIA – Nevis Island Administration; Lionel ‘Ras Trustme’ Stevens President of the Sandy Point Agricultural Co-operative Ltd (SPACS) and Elder Marcello Agard, a member of the Gideon Organic Farm.

The discussion was moderated by Telca Wallace, the President of the Liamuiga Agricultural Cooperative Society.

The Speakers at the panel discussion were from: 

  • RAS SANKOFA – School Farming Programme 
  • RAS AGARD – Institutionalising Agriculture 
  • RAS BANKIE – Orchard Development and Maintenance 
  • RAS TRUST-ME – CEMEPRO & Cooperative Development 

Furthermore, the Extension Officer in the Ministry of Agriculture of St Kitts, Jeanelle Kelly, highlighted the significance of supporting women in business and said, “In the agriculture as well as fisheries sector, it is necessary to support women in business, especially rural women folk and we have witnessed over the years how some women groups have been formed and flourished such as the Fahies Agricultural Women’s Cooperative.”

The objective of the Gideon Force Organic Farm is to provide natural and organic grown food for a healthier way of life using the most sustainable methods. 

The farm features lush green vegetables and fruits of all types, shapes and colours. 

The farm has been operating in St Kitts for quite some time now and is guided as well as supported by the Gideon Force Organic Agricultural Cooperative Ltd. It has adopted a solely organic approach to farming and initially began as a spiritual organization and incorporated that spirituality into farming.
