3 Cocktails That’ll Have You on the Next Flight to Bermuda

Ever taste a meal or cocktail so unforgettable, you long for that same experience week after week? It’s the same thing when you sip the legendary drinks of Bermuda—the flavors will have you wishing you were there.

When you visit Bermuda, one of the first things you’ll notice after the pink sand beaches and turquoise water is the cocktail culture. The island’s mixologists draw inspiration from the colorful houses, brave seafarers, Gombey dancers, caves, and more. Take the signature Dark ‘n Stormy®, for example. It was created at sea, likely in the late 1890s after the Royal British Navy added a ginger beer plant to the Dockyard complex. The tasty beverage had a striking resemblance, according to seamen, to storm clouds and treacherous waters. The Rum Swizzle has a more traditional story. This combination of Gosling’s rum, Triple sec, pineapple juice, and more can be traced to The Swizzle Inn Pub— Bermuda’s oldest and most storied tavern.

Of course, among all Bermuda libations, you’ll find natural ingredients and seasonal fruit. Just recently, we got to visit The Loren Hotel where mixologists showed off the allure of these beverages. In addition to tasting the classics, guests can whet their appetites with the non-alcoholic Harvest Elixir and others, which vary based on each season’s freshest local ingredients, like loquat jam and honey.
